Welcome

Hi everyone. Well here we go. As you all know - this has been my dream holiday for a long time now. I hope you enjoy this trip as well. I hope to see the "real" Portugal and share this with you all.

I will try to update you regularly on where I am and what I have seen. I will also give you a brief history of places I see. I am also going to try to speak Portuguese as much as possible. Mas só falo um pouco de português.

I am on a mission to discover the essence of Portugal. Portugal's history - both glorious and sometimes not so glorious - has fascinated me for years. I hope you find this trip informative and fun.

Just a short note to acknowledge that this trip is a result of the passing of my mother, and she will be remembered throughout this adventure.

My first stop is Lisbon (Lisboa).

Day whatevere

Hello again
This is the monument dedicated to Vasco De Gama. It is positioned on the shore where he set sail to find the spice route to India.

Weather report is rain for the rest of the week. Not only that, but cold and windy and yet it is still lovely.
I forgot to tell you that i have had the best pepper steak and carbonara I have ever tasted. The pastries are just incredible. This morning i had coffee and a pastrie that was fillled with custard and chocolate. i know we are familiar with this, but it was completely different - just melted in my mouth.
Also forgot to mention that in belem yesterday i also saw an Egyptian exhibition at the culturral centre. Always wanted to see that close up. Today i am going into the city to get some things for saving pics etc and get some moisturiser for my face (peeling from the beautiful sunshiine here).
Not much else to report. I leave for Evora (see map below) on thursday for a two night stay. I am booked in and the travel arrangements are made. They are very helpful here at the YHA.

Bye for now. Abraco. tony
