Welcome

Hi everyone. Well here we go. As you all know - this has been my dream holiday for a long time now. I hope you enjoy this trip as well. I hope to see the "real" Portugal and share this with you all.

I will try to update you regularly on where I am and what I have seen. I will also give you a brief history of places I see. I am also going to try to speak Portuguese as much as possible. Mas só falo um pouco de português.

I am on a mission to discover the essence of Portugal. Portugal's history - both glorious and sometimes not so glorious - has fascinated me for years. I hope you find this trip informative and fun.

Just a short note to acknowledge that this trip is a result of the passing of my mother, and she will be remembered throughout this adventure.

My first stop is Lisbon (Lisboa).

April8

Hi all.
Yesterday it was very wet and windy, but I still managed to get into Lisboa and see some things. Thankyou Trent for the windcheater - it has been workking overtime.

I went to the popular view area overlooking Lisboa and what a view!!!
I visited a water museum which is a quick experience of an underground Roman aquaduct. It was amazing. Apparently centuries ago the queen of Portugal would go down there with her maids to keep cool in the summer months. Incredible.

I went to my favourite restaurant last night and ended up invited to stay for staffies. Got to bed at 3am. They were full of questions and we spoke much Portuguese. i was very proud of myself. Much laughing and chatting. They even gave me gifts of books about the history of the restaurant.

They all love their country so much. It is not so much the history with these younger ones but the word they used is the same as our ambience. and i agree with them. There is something in Portugal that is hard to describe, except that it is the ambience. I am having a wonderful time here.

Love all
Tony
